Great news regarding foresters progression. Sounds like he will be a player for us soon. The shoot first mentality is something we do need.

Frost better show up in these pre season games. Everyone on here wants to just pencil him in but if you don’t show the coaches aren’t just going to give it you.

https://theathletic.com/2...prospects-might-join-him/

I understand not wanting to write a kid into a lineup spot if you don’t know if they’re ready, but I think the idea that a kid needs to significantly outplay a vet to be a lazy cop-out by the front office. The beginning of the season is the least leveraged part of the year, if you aren’t willing to take that marginal risk then, you won’t do it later in the year during more important games. Am I missing some part of this or is it just GMs being terrifi ed of taking risks and hoping something else forces their hand? — Greg K

Fans tend to hate this concept, but there’s more logic to it than most would like to admit.

It really just comes down to certainty of talent. Established NHL veterans are proven commodities, due to their long track records at the highest level. Prospects, on the other hand, are largely unknowns in terms of just how good they are at this moment in time. And in the grand scheme of things, training camp and preseason games are far smaller sample sizes than years of NHL play.......

But fans also are naturally going to be overly optimistic about how prospects are likely to perform in the NHL. After all, they’ve been hyping them up in their own heads for years — how could the kid not live up to expectation? Coaches, on the other hand, tend to figure that at the start of a season, they’d rather go with the sure thing — unless the hotshot prospect is so impressive that for the coach, that 30 percent chance jumps up to a perceived 60-70 percent. That’s how a prospect truly “wins” a job.

I'll be pretty disappointed if he can't grab a spot with the Hayes injury.

The Warriors hockey program sounds pretty badass. This is the side of hockey that’s most important. Supporting and helping people.

Not that I don’t care about something like who’s going to win that 3C spot on the Flyers but it seems so inconsequential compared to what the warriors are doing for real people’s everyday lives.

Even with some of the fans crying that there's no room for Frost?
Good think Chuck signed Brassard/Thompson, or we'd have a repeat of last year if the kids arent quite ready yet.

Read AV's quote re: Frost. He's been fine in camp. There was a blip yesterday on the shift where he got outworked by Desnoyers but overall he's doing what's expected. Farabee isn't on top of his game yet nor is JVR but they'll be fine, too.

That said, the line as a whole -- individually and collectively -- needs to be better than it was in the scrimmage yesterday. No one created very much.

Yea AV didn’t seem to concerned but the bottom line is the door is wide open for him to make this team and start on a scoring line, he needs to own it.

i expect Frost to have a Briere type impact on the ice

he might not win the corsi battle, but the finishing % for him and his linemates will be high enough to more than make up for the shot disparity most nights

It's great to see Foerster mentioned. From all the scrimmages I have watched...his release is wowzer (ok he's not OV or Matthews). Having someone who can tee up and snipe is really needed for this team (not goal scorer, SNIPER that draws attention and opens others OR can bury a quick shot if left unintended).

As I said, Foerster so far looks to be following a similar path to the NHL as Farabee, and if it happens that would be a huge win for the Flyers! They desperately need more snipers on this team. I like Atkinson, and maybe Giroux gets his shot back, but adding a player like Foerster would really open things up, especially on the PP.

I was kinda disappointed to see JvR back, though I'm glad we moved on from Jake.
I've just never been a fan since he was drafted.
I'm wondering how the promises to call cross checking net front will affect the game this year. Will it be a game changer for JvR?
And if smaller d-men can't cross check there, but only rely on sheer strength, is it a good thing we got Risto, but maybe a big challenge now for Ellis?

Frost is going to be given every chance to make this team, but if he doesn't I would not panic yet. Remember Frost has played 4 periods of real hockey in the past 18 months, so I would expect him to need time to get used to his improved frame and get his timing back. It just doesn't come back over night. However I am really liking this Elliot Desnoyers kid, if not now, very soon I can see him really being an anchor for our bottom six.

I remember when CF moved up to draft him and right away I said "I like this kids name.. now who the F is he?!"
I had no idea what CF saw in him or who he was but almost right away the kid started scoring in droves. I didn't get too excited until he scored another 4 points in a following game.
The more I watched him the more I saw a competitor in him. He fought for picks and he buried them when he could. Of he didn't score then he was setting up a linemate. Bottom line, so far it he looks like a diamond in the rough who is getting polished pretty quickly. He is one of my most exciting prospects to keep an eye on

I always think of Briere when I think about a shoot first elite finisher. So many clutch goals especially in the playoffs during his tenure here. You need to have that aspect.

Lol. Someone may loose their minds. Ronnie drafted him. No worries just getting ahead of it all.

Love everything I’m hearing about Ellis. Doing everything he can to get to know Provy on and off the ice, I think they are going to be a great pair.

Great to hear Foerster is playing so well and that he’ll get a look. It’s a shame Wisdom hurt his shoulder. I wonder if he’d be keeping up as well in these scrimmages.

Yes. Even though CF made some needed moves, the cupboard is not bare. Some very good prospects that will likely contribute at some point.

He will be on the team. Few other options unless move G to center but thats asking a lot. Not so sure Frost is going to be a difference maker type player see him as hopefully a 3C

Absolutely. Don’t forget about those in college either. Still have another cates, brink, O’Brien, attard, and feel like I’m missing someone. But still.

Brassard and Thompson are not going to give you any offense. They are both 4th line checking forwards anymore that no other teams wanted. Hayes injury really puts their C position in serious trouble. This team in real need of a quality 2C....Hayes really is a 3C when playing at his ability unlike last year when he was awful
